We have been busy in the garden, cutting back the hydrangas...I plunked them all in a wicker basket to enjoy inside. My dad grew these for me from cuttings, and with all the rain we've had this year, the flowers were enormous! We are working on creating another 'garden room'. I think I have told you before that we built our house about 10 years ago now, so the garden has been a work in progress...on my wish list is some more beautiful paving, a frog pond, and lots of lovely blooms (I can't plant roses in my back garden because the possums like to eat them, but for some reason they leave them alone out the front - go figure...)
It is autumn time here in Australia, and my camellias have begun to flower...so I picked a few to float in my favourite silver bowl. I created a little vignette to enjoy in the hallway each time I walk past.
I bought the little fairy picture on a girls' weekend in Sydney a few years back...I fell in love with it at the Paddington Market and just knew she was coming home with me...I love the chippy frame.
I hope that everyone had a wonderful Easter...we snuck down to the little house at the beach, where we enjoyed a long weekend with friends...
Delicious autumn. My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking successive autumns - George Eliot
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
ReplyDeleteClose bosom-friend of the maturing sun
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eaves run;
To bend with apples the moss'd cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
Until they think warm days will never cease,
For Summer has o'er-brimm'd their clammy cells.
Ah... those Romantic poets knew a thing or two didn't they?
Your little vignette is likewise romantic. I think you may have a touch of Keats in you!
I love autumn too. Your display looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYour Garden looks positively enchanting and so lush! So funny about the Possums, I've got a voracious Gopher attacking our Garden this year, my working Cats have yet to stop him so he's VERY well fed on all my lovely Flowers, Veggies and Herbs he's stolen. *sob*
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw an Autumn Post it intrigued me, I suppose that in Australia the Seasons are reversed, as we are in Spring here in the Arizona Desert. I have a difficult time choosing a favorite Season, there is just something special about them all that I enjoy.

Dearest Tina ... so very strange to think that autumn's bliss is nipping at your heels when spring is struggling desperately to makes its presence known here. I envy your days spent amidst the garden's beauty ... there is so much peace and serenity in the company of foliage. Your camellias are glorious and you have artfully arranged a still-life worthy of portraiture. I was just going to inquire as to where you found the fairy picture ... should you ever come across another one please let me know! For it is a MUST have. May the soft breaths of autumn gently lift your wings ...
ReplyDeleteWarmest of hugs, P.
